Lucky’s Cafe in Cleveland (Tremont) Ohio

So if you aren’t aware, Food Network has a show called “Diners, Drive-ins and Dives” where the guy named Guy goes around and reviews these small places. Well a place in Tremont called “Lucky’s Cafe” was visited and reviewed well by Guy. One if the dishes he had was the Reuben sandwich which I love to try at every restaurant I visit, so I had to come give it a try.

So far I have to say I am less than impressed. The service is rather slow. The tables by the windows suck because they are old draft windows. Being allergic to dairy products, I attempted to order my Reuben without cheese. At first I was told no because changing the makeup of a menu item was like “slapping the cook in the face “. Wow… that’s ridiculous. Well the waiter says he would talk to he cook and “see what he could” do after I expressed my allergy. Mind you, its over 13.00 for a simple Reuben sandwich.

OK. Got the food and my first impression is “13.00 for that little of a portion? This isn’t L.A.”. Feelings of taste… there wasn’t much of it. Service? Slow but polite and happy.

Overall opinion: if you like hoity toity overpriced small portioned food then this place is for you. For me, I’ll never go back. Better luck next time Lucky’s. =]

  1. This is basically the kind of service I got. I went in for some morning coffee when I lived in Tremont and was walking around the neighborhood. I figured I’d get a breakfast sandwich, but they all had ham or something, so I asked if they could just give me egg and cheese (when I was vegetarian, before I was vegan.)

The lady said they couldn’t just do that. I guess she meant that in the manner you described. Like it was some piece of art. But it’s just a coffee shop that sells food, not exactly fine dining.

In general, she was rude to me. Sad thing is I think she was the owner. I frequented the place, but never went back after that.
